چکیده
New projects being implemented or planned at CERN, such as the LHC Injectors Upgrade (LIU), High-Luminosity (HL-LHC) Future Circular Collider (FCC), motivate change of several architectural paradigms in Low Level RF systems (LLRF). In upgraded Super Proton Synchrotron (SPS) LLRF, distribution RF, revolution frequency, settings and synchronization timings will rely on a deterministic link, White Rabbit (WR), exploiting distributed topology. The digital electronics (FPGA) now use fixed frequency clock extracted locally each node from this data stream. paper presents new solution for algorithms that treat beam-induced perturbations they must solve challenge to tune their processing instantaneous Beam Synchronous Processing (BSP). Beam Echoes in the CERN SPS
Longitudinal echo signals have been produced in the CERN SPS by exciting a proton beam at 120 GeV/c with two short RF pulses separated by a suitable time-delay. The aim of the experiments was to confirm the analytical predictions for beam echoes in the SPS and to probe the applicability of beam echoes for a measurement of the energy distribution and diffusion coefficients in the accelerator. We...
متن کاملHigh Energy High Intensity Hadron Beams EXPERIMENTS ON LHC LONG-RANGE BEAM-BEAM COMPENSATION IN THE CERN SPS
Long-range beam-beam collisions may limit the dynamic aperture and the beam lifetime in colliders. Their effect can be compensated by a current-carrying wire mounted parallel to the beam. A compensation scheme based on this principle has been proposed for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). To demonstrate its viability, a prototype wire was installed at the CERN SPS in 2002. First successful machi...
متن کاملBeam Loading Compensation for the Nlc Low Frequency Linacs
The NLC low rf linacs are heavily loaded by a beam of about 130 ns in macropulse length (90 bunches) and a current up to 2.75 Amps. Beam loading voltage generates a large energy spread along the bunch train. This energy spread is critical for lattice design and, if not properly compensated, induces emittance growth and in turn lowers the luminosity of the machine. In this paper, we study the AF...
متن کاملTWO-FREQUENCY BEAM-LOADING COMPENSATION in the DRIVE- BEAM ACCELERATOR of the CLIC TEST FACILITY
The CLIC Test Facility (CTF) is a prototype two-beam accelerator, in which a high-current “drive beam” is used to generate the RF power for the main-beam accelerator. The drive-beam accelerator consists of two S-band structures which accelerate a bunch train with a total charge of 500 nC. The substantial beam loading is compensated by operating the two accelerating structures at 7.81 MHz above ...
متن کاملBeam Loading Compensation in the Nlcta*
In the design of the Next Linear Collider (NLC), multibunch operation is employed to improve efficiency at the cost of substantial beam loading. The RF pulse that powers the accelerator structures will be shaped to compensate for the effect of the transient loading along the bunch train. This scheme has been implemented in the Next Linear Collider Test Accelerator (NLCTA), a facility built to t...
